Another one bites the dust – closing down.
Next month my website comes up for renewal and it set me thinking about what I wanted to do with it. I’ve come to the decision to close down the WifeWearsPants blog. It’s only been a year and I know a number of you seasoned bloggers out there will think “another one bites the dust”.
I’ve spent quite a bit of time recently pondering on why I blog and what I want to get out of it and in the end I couldn’t think of enough reasons to keep it going. I guess that’s one of the reasons, when I started the blog I had in my mind several blog posts which I got out there, but beyond that I didn’t know what else I wanted out of it. Here are a few other reasons why I’m calling it quits:
Time (lack of)
Blogging takes quite a bit of time you know. I find that my only free time is when little Georgie is having a nap in the afternoon. That’s the time I’m preparing dinner for the girls or catching up with house admin. Then in the evening, it’s sitting down for dinner with the wife and we’re both so shattered after our full days that it’s usually an early night.
Then when both girls are at nursery school I’ve got a million and one things to do around the house. I have a huge amount of respect for bloggers out there who get good quality content out so often, seriously, where do you find the time???
Finding my niche (I didn’t realise you needed one)
There are a lot of Dad bloggers out there now so simply being a stay at home Dad isn’t really “niche” enough these days. I’ve been trying to think of what niche I could occupy. Unfortunately ginger, 40-something, cycling Dads in Surrey probably has a readership of one….me.
It maybe a cliché but it’s true. Blogging is hard work, trying to come up with good quality content, keeping up with marketing your site and just maintaining it in the first place. I was totally new to this game and found it quite a steep learning curve creating a website. I’m pleased with what I’ve learned but I just don’t have the time to dedicate to it.
This summer has been busy and I was starting to worry about not getting any posts out there. When something that’s supposed to be a fun thing to do in your spare time starts to cause you stress, then it’s time to call it a day.
Is this the end?
I hope not. I’m anticipating having more time next year as Galla starts Reception next September and Georgie will up her days at nursery. I enjoyed creating the website so perhaps I’ll do it again. I’m going to keep using Twitter so I will continue to see a lot of you out there.
In the meantime I will have a think about what I do next.
