On getting some exercise
Today I finally managed to get some exercise. Now I know people say that having children is exercise enough but when you’re used to doing some sort of sporting activity then you do miss getting out there and getting the heart rate up.
This hopefully is not necessarily a lament of a stay-at-home Dad but I think one of most parents. Perhaps I feel it more keenly as me and my wife have done everything so quickly. Four years ago we had just met and I was still cycling every week and riding various bike races. Today I managed to go for a run for the first time in months.
At one point a met a group of mountainbikers coming in the opposite direction, a reminder of a past life (I can see my wife rolling her eyes right now)….sigh. Georgie fell asleep during the run, great, but there was I thinking that perhaps she’d either stay asleep when we got home, or at least I could get her to nap again later, nope. So I had one very grumpy baby by the time we picked up Galla from nursery mid afternoon.
I’m still learning, note to self; if you want to take the baby out for a run, try to do it at her normal nap time (such that it is). Oh well, my enthusiasm for not having any jobs at home and getting out to do something for me while also bringing the baby along, got the better of me.
It’s a start.
In the meantime, the boys are steadily gathering dust in the shed looking forward to the day we can hit the road/trail again. And yes I’m being deliberately melodramatic there, just don’t call me a mamil!
