Leaves leaves and more leaves
When we bought this house, one of the things that attracted us to it was the larger garden. My wife loves doing a bit of gardening, her Dad has an amazing veggie patch and she’s trying hard to emulate it. However the resident slug and snail population are doing their damnedest to thwart her. It has also given me lots of opportunities for “jobs”, I love jobs, being a stay-at-home-Dad I thrive on jobs. Some I love more than others and it’s fair to say, living in the most wooded county in England, my annual battle with leaves is hard work.
I can spend an afternoon, blowing, sweeping, raking and piling up the leaves and an hour later the garden still doesn’t look like it’s been touched. However it does give a great opportunity for Galla to play! I love the fact the my eldest loves being in the outdoors and doesn’t mind getting mucky. Yesterday I was busy trying to gather all the leaves into one pile (job 1) ready to then transfer into bags (job 2….this is getting exciting) which can then be transported to the local recycling centre (job 3…hallelujah!).
I was then reminded that this time of year the simple pleasure of just launching yourself at a huge pile of leaves is what being outside and being a kid is all about. So I joined her in the bed of leaves looked up at the cold November sky and realised that these simple pleasures is what being a parent is all about.
It certainly made up for the tantrums we’ve been through recently! I love my girls.
