My Sunday Photo – tramping in NZ
Tramping (hiking) in NZ
We went on a bush walk this afternoon. Little Galla really impressed, at 3 yrs old she did the majority of the 1hr 45min walk. She only asked to be carried a couple of times and that was when the track was particularly muddy.
Having her teenage cousins there helped a lot with her motivation. Whenever she goes walking with us, I inevitably end up carrying her. When she’s with older kids she wants to impress! Georgie on the other hand did the whole walk without stopping. It’s considerably easier in the baby carrier! (look out for a future baby carrier review).
We were at Herbert forest in the Waitaki region of Otago in New Zealand. It’s a managed forest but as you can see from the picture, there is a good mix of native bush still in there. We tramped the Swallows Track. There was a good amount of elevation gain and I was glad for my walking shoes as recent rains had made the track very muddy in places.
Talking of which, can anyone recommend good quality walking shoes for children?
